Guido's web
First topic message reminder :
Well I just got off the phone with Mr. Palasini, and I finally ordered a web. As soon as it comes in I will take pictures of it and my set up (modified) and post them. I'm excited to be a bit more lite and much quieter.

Re: Guido's web
I climbed my pine tree tonight with the tibloc setup. It sucked because the carabiner just doesn't make a good handle and I really like the handle on my Petzl Ascension. I tried the microcender also and it works also but again no handle. I think I will quit and stay with what I'm using and keep an additional ascender handy in case I break or lose mine.

mine is 24 with loops I fear it may be a touch to long but it's not in the way so all is good as far as I'm concerned. Whisper awesome set up keep what you got if that works so be it i m sure its not that heavy. What d you do with the double fisherman's knot in the end of your rope again?

Re: Guido's web
I tie a screw link on the end of my rope using the DF knot instead of using a figure 8 for my cinch/noose. The rope slides through easier with less friction....especially for pulling it back down out of the tree.

Re: Guido's web
Don't use a biner for that purpose. They can have a lot of side pressure exerted on them in that application. Get a few 3/8" oval screw links.....bomb proof. SS ones would even be better.

Any small D would be good. I use screw locks. I have several tri-locs, but they are all different and work different ways. I would say some small Rock Exotica "D"s would be great. I use what I have and that is Petzl AMDs, Williams, and Attache's. They are all a bit big and overkill.

How about using these for the bridge?

Re: Guido's web
I believe that strap is to short to be an effective bridge and the straps coming up from the sides of the web will probably pinch/squeeze your thighs. Probably need a minimum of 18-24 inch strap=9-12inches of movement on each side of the pivot point or you won't be able to turn very far.

Wow, I had no idea there was another product like the tree saddle out there, let alone ways to get up a tree without carrying sticks. I'm really loving this forum. Its like finding a hidden treasure.

I really want to convert over to the rope system. I sweat my tail off getting up the tree. It's a good thing I got the wind in my favor other wise It would be a waste. Good news is I can climb 30 feet in about 14 minutes using the one stick method.

Made the switch
Well my web came in last night when I got off work....I used the straps that came with the web for a little practice shooting...It was definitely different but first shot at 20 yards with the recurve was in the two inch circle on my block...The second shot cut the feather on my first arrow...I am waiting for my bridge material to come in and my folding rope steps by ezy steps to get here to make my ratchet strap base. I added a few pouches on each side of the leg straps and started putting thing in them...
Over all I'm pretty pumped about this stand....I have a hunt at Piedmont National Wildlife refuge first of November and after the 1.3 mile hike I made two bow seasons ago with my API I'm thinking this new stand is going to be worths it's (lack) weight in gold.
I have webbing coming to climb with but I'm debating on purchasing some LW or muddy sticks...Time will tell but I'm really excited about this stand and I didn't really understand all they hype you guys had on here until I finally sat in it myself...
I guess I've drank the Kool-aide and I'm a believer! Now to draw a little blood!

Re: Guido's web
Well guys, I've been using the Guido's web for about 8 weeks now. I can climb with it fine....not quite as easy as the saddle, but very workable. I can only get about 12" per stroke on the Guido compared to 18" with the saddle. I just can't make the bridge any shorter.....nature of the Guido's design. I use two slings....one to climb and one for the bridge. Both slings are attached to the Petzl Rig with a black William carabiner.. The short sling is 4 or 6 inches and the bridge sling was too long so I cut it and water knotted it at about 14". After reaching my hunting height, I open the carabiner and slide the short sling out leaving the long sling as my bridge. It works slick and is very comfortable. The web is much more comfortable than the saddle, but you do give up a bit of mobility. The seat bar on the Guido can make some noise on bark if you're not careful. I like them both.

Re: Guido's web
I got a web and gave it a go. After a couple times in it I went back to my Summit's and sold it. Not a bad system but I found with carrying sticks and everything else there wasn't much weight difference than a climber and I can get higher in a climber than with sticks.

Do yall ever get tired of hugging the tree. I was thinking of one but just not sure. Have to prep trees or carry steps then sweat trying to get those in. Just not sure ,but they do look comfy. Can someone post a close up of one?

Doug, one stick climbing is like using a sit down model climber. You attach your stick, then climb to the top step, hook up your tree tether alittle over head high (I suggest using a rope tree strap), then sit down in the Web, & move your stick up. One tip - place your tether hook up point either to the right or left of your stick. I prefer right but either will work. This is important so the fork on the saddle doesn't contact your stick.
Here is a posted I made on another forum comparing climbing methods by video. I'm using a rock climbing harness & Loc-on here, but the same method is used with the Web.

Facing the tree takes some getting use to & shooting from the Web definately takes practice. Plenty other ways to climb then screw-in steps. The method I use is no more work then climbing a tree any other way & weights a couple lbs. The Web isn't my goto stand, but instead the one I pull out for all-day sits. All my pics are posted on pg 1 of this thread, but if you want to see another angle let me know.

Re: Guido's web
Thanks. That's what I figured but wasn't sure how you'd be able to reach down and pull the stick up if you were on the top step.I just bought a GW.I used a tree saddle on and off for several years.I liked the concept but the comfort just wasn't there. The GW addresses that issue nicely.
I did come up with a cool method of climbing with a Lone wolf handclimber seat.I can get up to 20 ft in about 2 minutes.I'll see if I can get some pictures but basically I just wrapped a bungeed around the seat to put my feet under.I then put a set of wrist straps from a Lat machine(used for weight lifting)on the top tether.I put my wrists through the straps and pull myself up.It takes about six pulls to get to 20 feet.

That methods sounds sweet. What's the weight on the hand climber top? Also I'm asuming you just sit down in the Web & unhook the climber to navigate around branches?

Re: Guido's web
I'm not sure of the weight but it's probably around 3lbs or so.Here's something similar to the strap I use.I tied knots in it to shorten it and just snap in on to the top tether.I put the straps as high as I could get them above my head and just pull myself up,similar to do a chin-up. It's safer because you're always connected.

Re: Guido's web
You wouldn't happen to have any pics or video of your setup? Do you use the hand climber as your foot platform at hunting height? This is the one thing I haven't found the prefect solution for just yet.

Re: Guido's web
I just started playing around a few weeks ago but the seat would certainly work as a platform as long as you strapped it to the tree.It would be easy to bump it and send it falling.I'd still use a few extra strap on steps as a platform so you could move around better.I don't have a photo bucket but I could take a picture and e-mail it to you.
The seat folds up in the GW so transporing it is easy.I use a climber a lot but like the versatilty of these suspension type stands. The GW is pretty new to me.Like I said,I have a tree saddle so I have experince hunting like this.I expect the GW to actually change the way I hunt. The one stick climbing method sounds good. With the treesaddle I always pre hung a ladder stick or just brought three Lone wold sticks and one strap on step. That would get me to about 17 ft with minimal effort and weight. If I only had to take one stick, that would be the ticket.

Re: Guido's web
I have been prepping gear for next season & made a little mod to the web. I found the fork to get in my way when climbing & also made some noise on trees when I would shift my weight. Here's my solution - I ground out the rivets & attached the fork with a bolt & knob. This allows the fork to be folded out the way while climbing & once tighten down the bolt still allows for some movement. So instead of the fork rubbing against the tree in a weight shift it just pivots on the bolt.

The knob was off an old treestand - treelounge I think, but you can find something similar at a hardware store I'm sure.

Hey, great sight!! Been looking at it for a while, some great info here. Have a question about the GW, bought one last year and due to high order's missed bow season with it. What is the average hight for hunting in it? Butch thinks12-15' , normally in my summit I'm around 20' plus.

Welcome, we're glad you joined us. It's really a personal preference. I'd say, in my personal experience, that 12-15 ft is good. Don't have to go 20 ft, but it's up to the individual.
Re: Guido's web
Thank's Dave was able to use it in rifle season and was blessed with a harvest , really looking forward to bow season this year. By the way I was around 12' in rifle season thought I may need to be higher with a bow.

Re: Guido's web
I get picked off drawing a bow at less than 20'....with a gun it's not a problem. I am always 20-30 feet and once or twice 35'. on the side of a ridge. Man....I haven't been here in a while. I have to do that y bracket mod. That thing annoys me (hitting me in the legs) when I am climbing.

Thank for the info Whispers Death. I can hardly wait till the season starts so I can spend some time in the web. Never used any type of saddle to hunt before I'm sure I will find pros and cons with the web. I have a friend who has used this style of hunting for about 3 years and said once you figure it out he thinks you even see more game. Hope I find that to be true!

Re: Guido's web
My Dad just turned 74 and he bow hunts with me. He uses a Summit Viper and gets a kick out of my ropes and harnesses. I told him last year that I have never seen as many animals as I have in my tree saddle and Guido's web. Even the birds act differently. He laughed and said "Nonsense.....your just growing up and sitting more still." I'm 48, but still a silly kid to him.
I have had bobcats, coyotes and turkeys right under me....the turkeys bedded down not 10 feet from my tree. That never happened with my climbers and ladders.

Re: Guido's web
Has anyone decided what the easiest climbing method is for the Web? I got mine last year about half way through the season and I mostly used climbing sticks or screw in steps. This wasn't to bad but I really would like to lighten my load. I have read the ways ya'll have listed and I know it is up to the person. I was just wondering what is the lightest and fastest method anyone has used.
