Re: No Deer Seen
36 hours on stand so far (4 days) Have not seen a deer pass by. Jumped 3 deer going in, saw 2 bears, turkey and a grouse. Not surprised. Last year it took over 160 hours or so. 2 months, weekends, days off etc...
Note though that I hunt big woods. Large tracts with fewer deer densities.

Re: No Deer Seen
I have to scout more have not seen any yet. Although I have gutted two of my friends for experience and helped drag 2 over 280 yards. All this work has to pay off at some point!

It's early guys. I view the season as a marathon, not a sprint. Right now I only hunt 3-4 hours max. I have learned to pace myself, and hold back until the last week of October. Then I hunt sunrise-sunset every chance I get. Patience, stay focused, it WILL pay off! THIS season is gonna be great!!!
Re: No Deer Seen
Well I got some meat in the freezer. I shot a Doe monday with my bow on private land over a feeder. I know, I know, it wasnt public land, but it was still fun. I will be on public land in the morning, hopin to score....

Re: No Deer Seen
Spent this past weekend in Wirt County hunting private land to get a feel for the deer movement and activity and it seems the deer are starting to move more and more as the weather cools. Had my public stand hung for about 3-4 weeks now and have yet to disturb it so hopefully it will bring luck when I get to spend a full day hunting next week. When hunting Wirt County I did see a immature spike on the way home running a doe in a 100 yd circle in a field, gotta love the young guys. Hang tough, its about to get good, and best of luck to everyone.

Re: No Deer Seen
I sneezed soooooo hard sunday morning that I scared the four does that were munching akerns underneath. About fell outta the tree. 1.5 hrs later they came back and started a grazin' , got spooked by some chatter happy squrriels because the young one tooted. Came back again and seen the boy down the trail, scratchen' and a rubbin' - dab-blasted if'n two joggers didn't come by on the mountian trail just a chatterin' away....oh well theres always another day.
Best part they never knew I was a'watchin'
hopes this helps.

Re: No Deer Seen
Just did 2 full days, dark to dark on state land. At least I saw deer this time around, but as a bowhunter, everything has to be close to perfect before getting shot. Just did not work out. Would have had a Doe if things worked out.

Re: No Deer Seen
I am curious, are you using any kind of a scent bomb? or, any scent call grunt rattlin' etc., etc./?

Re: No Deer Seen
I don't use any scent attractants on public land, and I use grunt calls, rattles, bleats sparingly. I usually only use a call AFTER seeing deer to bring them closer.
