I DO NOT AGREE that Bowsites blood trail challenge is useful. It is challenging, tricky, and NOT, I repeat NOT, completely accurate. It is for entertainment purposes ONLY.

I have participated in MANY of Pat's exercises and he is consistently ADMITTING that he "throws us curves" in his scenarios, that may or may not have ANYTHING at all to do with real life recovery.

Also, MANY times he gives shot placement options that are absolutely TERRIBLE for showing newbies where to place an arrow.

The only thing I can say with any consistency about Pat's challenges is hey, at least he is trying.

Also, I am not positive, but am pretty sure Pat does not hunt much PUBLIC land. Exclusive, expensive, and VERY WELL managed private land comes with blood trail options that MOST (certainly myself included) public land hunters better not choose.

I know this is my first post, but I am hoping that this new PUBLIC LAND forum will be different than others.

One thing I have learned by hunting high pressured deer/turkey on Public land over the years, THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than private land animals. And take an entirely different set of skills to routinely, consistently kill them. ESPECIALLY the mature ones.

As you mentioned that at least Pat is trying, I am trying as well. Trying to make this the VERY BEST Public Land, Bow Hunting Forum on the internet.

While I truly strive for all of my posts to be out of the park homeruns of useful info, even the best swing a strike, or hit a foul from time to time. It's all good bro, have a great day.

P.S.- I already have plans to do a very detailed video (imagine that ) on the every blood trail that I create this season. I would encourage anyone here who films their hunts to do the same. As a matter of fact I'm gonna make a section right now for Member's Blood Trails. This way we are teaching & learning together. I love it

Let me assure you this site is geared toward the public land hunter. I have gotten to know Dave over the past few months. There is no doubt the dude is passionate about public land bow hunting & wants to share that with others.

About the blood trail challenge I will agree that some are done with the intent to trick the viewers. I don’t feel it’s possible to duplicate a blood trail using a pictorial or video format. There is just too much that goes into a blood trailing job that can’t be captured 100% by either method. However, I feel Pat does a good job with the pictures, the challenge is educational, & some points are useful in real world tracking. Can someone learn how to track a wounded deer by studying these challenges? I seriously doubt it, as there is no substitute for the real thing, but if they pick up just one tip that helps them locate a deer then it was worth watching.
I have no idea where Pat hunts, but for the blood trail challenge I don’t think it matters. It’s been my experience that public land deer or heavily pressured deer do indeed act like different animals than their private land relatives. But once mortally wounded the playing field is leveled.
