Even the woods need a day of rest

Sorry, the woods and the game never rest. It's just another day, the game goes about it's business, trying to feed, breed, and avoid predators. This one is very close to my heart. I'm up to head out on one of the two Sundays we can hunt here where I'm at,and we've had to fight tooth and claw to get those.

Makes no sense whatsoever that the law can tell you what you can and can't do, especially on your own property, when that activity is perfectly acceptable six other days of the week,and there is no sound biological reason for the decision. You can go shopping,fishing,participate in any other sport or activity. Buy hard liquor, rent a porn flick...but you can't enjoy quality time with family and friends? WHY?

If you really want to give the woods a "day of rest" make it be on tuesday while I have to work.

I'm fortunate to work for myself, I can take many days off. But for the guys that punch a time clock, really limits there time afield. Well laws are laws, Sundays are in season scouting days.

I don't punch a clock, but I do like the other vitals that a paycheck can buy......

I think the Sundays rule is a little silly. Also, rules about no stone points and no lesser weapons rules.

While I wont hunt on Sunday because of religious convictions, I do think it is a bad rule, and actually a dangerous one. The lesser weapon rule is silly too, glad we dont have that here.

The one they got Ted Nugent on is pretty stupid as well. They charged him for killing a bear after he had drawn blood on another one but did not recover it. Evidently, if you draw blood, you are considered to have used your tag, even if you do not make a recovery of a bear in Alaska.

You can have lots of quality time with friends and family and not kill animals to do it. We live in a "poor me" society....I want it so I should have it. If you want Sunday hunting, the take action by lobbying intelligently for it to the people who can help get it. Or you can whine about it on an archery forum where it will do no on any good except for a venting wall. The question would be, "what have you done with the principals that can do something about Sunday hunting?

I get a little tired of people who don't know me and have absolutely NO IDEA about what I or anyone else has or has not done in regards to having Sunday hunting implemented here in Maryland. Seems to be going around on several forums.

If I feel like whining about it on an Archery forum, after long evenings at the County Council meetings regarding the Sundays we had opened, evenings packed with boring dialog and animal activists, the days I spent writing letters to advocate this position to my elected officials, the online campaigns to have people support the legislation when it submitted posting links to the legislation the bills were in, complete with the e-mail addy and phone numbers and names for all those on the committee that the bills were in,sample letters of support..

You know what, I'll whine about it all I want on an archery forum.

Sunday rule would suck. I think it's due to religious reasons which is wrong to not allow someone to hunt that isn't religious. If you are religious just don't hunt on that day.

Day of rest? I personally can't think of anything more relaxing then sitting 30 foot up a tree with a nice cool breeze blowing while watching the world come alive.

I dont hunt due to religious beliefs, but in no means look down on or judge somebody for it. Here in mississippi a season can not start on a sunday, but you can hunt on any sinday

Does anyone really know why some states do not allow hunting on Sunday?

I asked many when we were living in PA and I got many different answers, but then I went about to learn the real reason - that in and of itself was interesting........u just gotta love the Amish!

Dont know for sure Miller, but my guess would be its traced back to the "blue laws" of the 50's.

I sure would like the benefit of not paying taxes like the Amish, minus their theology

PRATT—You see a big buck moving in the direction of your buddy’s deer stand. You want him be ready, so you grab your cell phone and without thinking you send him a text: “Big buck coming your way!” Unfortunately, you’ve just broken the law.
The law has been on the books for years, and many hunters are aware that two-way radios can’t be used to give the location of a game animal for the purpose of taking such animal. However, the law prohibits the use of “a radio or other mechanical device,” which includes cell phones. And a text is the same as a call. Don’t do it.

Whilst I am not an advocate nor a protaganist of the blue laws, I do find it extremely ironic that one can stop at the quickie mart and get gas before going to their respective Assembly's, going to the extreme to purchase ammo/arrows at their favorite shopping center for the next day's hunt.

Isn't that by it's own nature a contradiction of the Governmental rule?
