With all of these people posting genetically altered deer on a lot of other forums it got me thinking. I think it would be cool if we had some sort of public land bow hunter record book. Kind of like a pope and young for public land hunters. I'm not talking just on the site I am talking an actual Book for all public land hunters. What do you think?

I like the idea, but not sure how you could insure that it was killed on public land. It would be really hard to go on the honor system, most people you could trust but there would be that one that you couldn't, there always is.

That is a good idea. I never killed a buck that would come close but I've seen some good bucks killed on public land. What would you call such a record book?

Maybe just as simple as Pope and Young Public or the Republican.

There's a lot of variables with a "Trophy" deer these days that's for sure.

I've been deer hunting a long time and can remember back in the 50's and early 60's when most of the outdoor magazines agreed a B&C buck was one of the most difficult game animal to kill.

Seem's like today deer farming plays a bigger role than deer hunting.

If they had a book I do not think I would report it if I were to shoot one.  If a number of "book bucks" began showing up from your area what is that going to do?  I think everyone on here goes to great lengths to do their hunting homework.  Beyond basic scouting,  people that hunt public need to look for the areas that are less pressured or try to predict the effect of pressure on deer in their area.  It may sound greedy but if you put all your work and energy into scouting, observing, and planning only to have a  bunch of people sitting next to you because they read the location in a book would not be worth it to me.
