Release Date: 07/03/2014

July 3, 2014 – The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission today adopted a resolution that adds acreage to Peason Ridge Wildlife Management Area (WMA).

Peason Ridge WMA’s new 17,994 acres have been added through a cooperative management agreement with the US Army. That addition increases Peason Ridge to 51,004 total acres, owned by the US Army.

The WMA is located eighteen miles north of Leesville with acreage in Sabine, Natchitoches and Vernon Parishes.

The Commission’s resolution procedure is part of the formal regulatory process that must be followed in the establishment of WMAs. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries manages over 1.5 million acres of public land for outdoor recreation use.

For more information on the state WMA program, visit http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/wma or contact Steve Smith at 225-765-2359, or 318-487-5885, or ssmith@wlf.la.gov .
