I think I'm in love!
I just picked up a 45# Bear Super Kodiak. I don't think there's anything prettier than a recurve! I hope she shoots as good as she looks.

Re: I think I'm in love!
Well I shot it today about 60 times at 20 yards only missed once.
Fun to shoot! I really like it. I was using my compound arrows and they fly a little screwy. Gonna have to play and get some arrows for this bow. I'm lefty and I know the helical makes a difference but can't remember which I should use being a lefty. My compound arrows are straight.

UB, I'm right-handed and I shoot left helical fletched arrows..they fly real purty too!
Re: I think I'm in love!
Bob if your left handed you need a right wing & right helical. Right shooters shoot left wing &left helical. I know people that shoot ether way but I like mine to spin clock wise.

Re: I think I'm in love!
The more I shoot my bow the deeper and deeper in love I fall.
I ordered this also http://shop.dakotabows.com/product.sc;jsessionid=6A1464F60F6E0E1647A0289BACD677DC.qscstrfrnt05?productId=26&categoryId=1
I'm shooting it pretty good but I want to be as good as Dave.

Re: I think I'm in love!
I bought this bow on EBay. It said it was like new and had a buy it now price of $325. I bid on it a few times then thought someone was going to steal it from me the last minute so I looked up the price for a new one and found it was about $495 ish. So I bought it now for the $325. This bow looks like I just picked it up from the store! Not a mark on it. It shoots very smooth and I'm getting very good with it very quickly.
So the guy I bought it from sent me a message that I got a very good deal on it. I sent a message back that I enjoy it very much and shoot it every day. I also told him I knew it was a good deal that's why I used the "Buy it now" function. He told me he paid $425 for it and wishes he never sold it. He wanted to replace it with a 2011 model but yada yada yada.
Why would anyone sell a bow in perfect shape to buy the same exact bow only a few years newer?
I really feel bad but not enough to give it back! I love this bow!!!!!

Oh yeah, I picked up some P.O. arrows for it with right hellis and they shoot awesome. I really like them but the price was very high. I think I'm going to start making my own. I fletch my own right now but never made my own wood arrows. Heck these are the first wood arrows I've ever owned except for when I was a kid.
Any arrow making tips out there?

I always stained my wood shafts with golden oak wood stain. I sealed them with 3 coats of Helmsman's Spar Urethane.

P.O. is good wood, smells great! Below is what I finally settled on, after much research. At one time I had 4 dozen I made of these S.S. tapered shafts. If they didn't make carbon, I'd still be shooting them.

Re: I think I'm in love!
good stuff Dave - and Bob that is a beautiful bow that will be a dependable hunting tool. Custom Bighorns were very popular for many years and styled after those original Bear Models. Predator after that built a good bow in the bear style. Those original bows remain the standard.
Accuracy Factory: Excellent - the best - and you are good to avoid 95% of what is out there in bare bow archery shooting instruction. We strongly recommend bowhunters begin with Asbell's Instinctive Shooting for foundation and a text to go back to reading and rereading then the Accuracy Factory for visual and hands on instruction. Ricky Welch came to hunt with some of my hunting crew and they ALL benefited immediately from Ricky's instruction - AND these guys were all lifelong bowhunters who were already very successful shooting and taking game.
Arrows: Cedar smells good and is generally straight but we prefer hardwoods. Asbell's book is also has a chapter on building wood arrows which is very strong and good to have the text for reading and rereading.
Good Hunting<><
