July 9, 2012 – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries invites private landowners, forestry professionals, wildlife biologists and managers to a Managing Pine for Wildlife Workshop on Saturday, July 21 in Woodworth, La. This workshop is offered free of charge.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Woodworth Outdoor Education Center located south of Alexandria, approximately 1.5 miles west of Interstate 49, exit 73. The event includes morning information sessions, lunch and afternoon field demonstrations.

Morning sessions will provide information about improving pine habitat, leased or owned, including stand establishment, prescribed burning, fallow disking, native grass plantings, harvesting, cost share programs, as well as, the Red Cockaded Woodpecker Safe Harbor Program. Afternoon field presentations will demonstrate a native grass drill, prescribed burning trailer and prescribed burning habitat benefits.

This workshop will provide time to meet professionals who can share their knowledge of the pine ecosystem and wildlife it supports.
