Favorite type of spots
In the ideal world, what type of location would you be setup in. Obviously this probably changes through the season.

That's an easy one - early season on a hot cow oak that's just raining acorns, mid season on a rub line in a pinch point between a bedding & feeding area, & late season the best food source I can find. Hard part is finding these spots.

Give me a point of high land jutting out into a swamp with a breeze blowing so that the deer out on the point thinks he is secure, but blowing just off enough so I can sneak in and set-up where he can't smell me when he slinks into the hardwoods to feed just before dark.

Re: Favorite type of spots
In the WMA I've been hunting forever there is a spot I find ideal. There is a nuttall oak in the corner of a timber thinning. This corner creates a funnel between the thick timber thinning and the open hardwoods. The great thing about this particular oak is that it is usually dropping acorns in the early stages of the pre rut lending itself to lots of buck sightings as they cruise the edge looking for does feeding at the oak. Any wind other than a southerly wind is ideal for this spot.
Other than this particular spot I like to hunt the edges of CRP, especially if there is a corner that connects it to some sort of food source.

In the ideal world,I would be set up in that big old straight polar that wide 8 point walked by at 15 yards, instead of the crooked oak that makes my back hurt 60 yards away from there, that looked so good when I was scouting.
Re: Favorite type of spots
Well its only my second season coming up but. I love to be in a active feeding area (hard woods) sitting with in 25 yards of a red or white oak that theire feeding on. See lots and lots of deer usually.

Farm land bedding thicket. Evening hunt set up close on the edge between food scorce (wind tiowards food scorce)and him close enough I'll see him before dark on the edge right as he go's into open field.
Buck bedded at the top of finger ridge that stops right below the mountain top. Again set up in the evening far enough up the finger ridge I'll see him comeing down by dark.
Durning late pre-rut ,rut set up in a bottle neck between 2 doe bedding areas. ANYTIME
AGAIN DURNING THE PRE-RUT AND RUT set up on a growed up fence line between 2 wood lots. ANYTIME
Pre-rut, rut calling set up with my back to open field where the buck has to come from up wind. ANYTIME
HUNTING THE EDGE OF ANY BEDDING THICKET BETWEEN THE BEDDING AND A FOOD SCORCE IN THE EVENING CLOSE ENOUGH THAT HE'LL GET TO ME BY DARK.
