Future Kansas Public Land Hunt
I am putting in for a Kansas public land archery tag for next year. It would be my first time to hunt Kansas if I get the tag. Was wondering if anyone has ever hunted Kansas or would also like to go? I need all the tips I can get!

Never hunted there. First thing I'd do is contact the dnr.

I would ask what the top 3 archery counties are, then I'd see what public land is available in those counties. From there you could start scouting online, while gathering additional info, throughout the time you have to prepare. Keep us posted on your adventure.

KEY LOCATIONS IN THE STATE OF KANSAS FOR TROPHY WHITETAIL DEER
Throughout all states there are some “honeyholes” or good locations to hunt trophy deer. For example private ground near refuges, etc. Primarily the key location to pursue Kansas whitetail deer would be the Southeastern portion of the State, with the best County in the State of Kansas being Butler County, Kansas. Other counties which produces the most number of entries in the record books include bordering counties of Butler including Sedgwick, Sumner, Cowley, Greenwood, Chase, Marion, Reno, and Harvey. Key towns and cities to seek accommodations relative to those areas would be Wichita, Hutchinson, Augusta, Winfield, and Pratt, Kansas.

Re: Future Kansas Public Land Hunt
Thanks for the info! A buddy of mine has gotten drawn for some Kansas public land for several years now and this year is the first year he hasn't gone. He was drawn but chose to spend his money on a lease this year instead. He has killed several doe and one nice 8 point on public land in Kansas. He said he has seen good bucks every year he has gone just out of range for his bow. I will start doing my homework now so hopefully if/when I get drawn I'll know somewhat where to start scouting when I get there.
